The ultrasound emits high-frequency sound waves that bounce back in the form of what is inside, creating a picture. They are completely safe for both you and your pregnancy, and they require no preparation and no invasion.
Do I need an ultrasound?
If you are pregnant, the short answer is, “yes”.
A pregnancy ultrasound not only confirms the pregnancy, but it gives practitioners an idea of the viability of the pregnancy, as well as determines the gestation age of the pregnancy (how far along you are). A viable pregnancy will have a heartbeat and will be implanted in your uterus, both of these things can only be determined through an ultrasound. To move forward with any decision, it is crucial that the gestational age and viability of the pregnancy are determined.
When do I schedule an ultrasound?
An ultrasound is performed after you have received confirmation of pregnancy. After your pregnancy test, we will talk with you about when to schedule an ultrasound. Getting an ultrasound early on in the first trimester of pregnancy will give you the most time to decide on a choice about your pregnancy.
